How does React decide whether to update, mount, or unmount a component?

Imagine you have a LEGO house. If you change a blue brick to a red one, you have to take the blue brick out and put a red one in its place. But if you just move the blue brick to a new spot, you don't need to change it, just move it. React works like that with its components.
